Christmas in Florida

Christmas in Florida

The “boys” got a little crazy on Christmas Day. Sad to say “2 hour delivery” was not available on Christmas Day. Unable to find a Santa suit to wear while water skiing around Lake Berry, they resorted to squeezing themselves into Ella’s Olaf the snowman suit. You need to understand:  Ella is 10, and she is about 5’3″ tall. True, the suit was very roomy on her frame, but still, when you stretch it on to the frames of a couple of 30-something men, it’s going to be a squeeze. Somehow her 6’4″ managed to don said garment over a wetsuit before skiing. The other skier was under 6′, so he did the initial run.

It might be a good plan to purchase an adult sized Santa suit and Buddy the Elf in the after Christmas clearance rush and put it away for next year’s joyful insanity.

  • Being (as opposed to Doing)
All this social distancing and its associated “quarantine” way of life offers, no, it demands, some serious reflection on how things are. It gives a space to learn what it is to Be instead of just to Do. In that space, I can hope to learn that I cannot possess God/Eucharist/Christ/a good prayer life/love/peace/mass… What […]
  • Two edged sword
A time be born, a time to die… When my brother in law died nearly 3 years ago, I sang those words at his memorial service. “To everything,[turn, turn, turn] there is a season [turn, turn, turn] and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Today as we were out running errands, the Byrds sang […]
  • Expanding the Social Circle
We got brave: my daughter and her family needed to vacate because their house is on market and there were several showings. They brought the kids’ bikes and skates and legos, and the son-in-law’s golf clubs (his parents live very close by). We spent hours on the back porch just being and talking. Kev played […]
